Requests about your information go through the contact page.

This site does not sell your data, does not share it for advertising, and does not track your behavior. The site is intended for adults.

Server Logs

The web server records the IP address, timestamp, requested URL, and user agent of every visitor in the ordinary course of running a web server. A security tool called fail2ban uses these logs to block repeated failed login attempts to the admin area.

Cookies

We do not use cookies for ordinary visitors. The site owner's private admin area sets one session cookie for authentication. That cookie is not used for tracking or advertising.

Questions and Answers

When you submit a question through Ask Roy, the text of your question is stored as a line in a file on the server. No account is required. No email address, name, or identifying information is requested.

Your question text is transmitted to Anthropic's API, an artificial intelligence service provider, for the purpose of drafting a response. This transmission is necessary to generate the answer you see.

The site owner reads your question. The owner can edit the question before it is published. Your question is only published if the owner chooses to answer it, in edited and anonymized form, in Roy's Wisdom. Questions that are not used are deleted by the site owner.

Service Providers

The site uses the following service providers:

  • Anthropic API: to generate draft responses to submitted questions.
  • GitHub: the site's version control and backup system. Published content and its history are stored there.

Data Retention

Nightly backups of the site are kept on the server. Server logs are retained per the web server's default settings. Questions you submit are kept until the site owner deletes them (either after publishing or if they are not used).

Your Rights and Deletion Requests

If you want your question deleted, contact Roy through the Contact and Corrections page and explain which question you want removed. Please include the text or date of your submission if you remember it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy at any time. Changes will be dated on this page. Your continued use of the site means you accept the updated policy.
